Ambassadors of Christ

Why Do We HomeSchool?

We want to raise our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. We believe that the Lord has a plan for each of our children’s lives. We believe that He will give each of them the desire to learn what they need to fulfill His plan. We believe that He calls us to trust Him in every area of life--and the lives of our children is no different.

Mirick and I talked about the kind of adults we wanted our children to become and how we wanted their lives to reflect Christ. We mentally took a look down the road of our children’s lives. We discussed questions like: What kind of adult do we want Rosa to be? What kind of adult do we want Sarah to be?  What kind of adult do we want Josef to be?  Then we pondered the verses in (Psalms 127:3-5) “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.”  From those verses we learned that children are like arrows; and as we began to reflect upon the verses we started to look at life in a new perspective, an eternal perspective! So, we started listing different qualities and attributes we wanted to see in the lives of our children.  Then we talked about what we needed to do *now* to help form them into those kind of children and later the adults .  We came up with clear cut objectives and planned how to get them to a point that they would live their lives for Christ.

We realize we are warriors and our children are arrows and the path for each child will be different. We spend much of our time working on our children's character (controlling our temper/anger, having a spirit of forgiveness, kindness, putting others first, being diligent workers---it's different for each child) than we do on phonics or the times tables. (What really matters?) We spend time laughing, hugging, talking and putting tunes to God’s word, so we can hide God’s word in our hearts. What a joy it is to my heart to hear our children sing hymns about What A Mighty God We Serve.

Mirick and I realized that our children are a gift from God, and immediately our lives changed! It did not matter to us what educational degrees we held, how much more money we would have if I went into the workforce or that we had to make financial sacrifices. What matters is that we are teaching our children how to say "yes" to the things of God and "no" to the things of this world. We want them to choose character over career, and holiness over happiness. We live in a world where the lies of satan says bigger is better and lots of toys bring you happiness. Our desire is to teach Rosa, Sarah, and Josef to adhere to Matthew 6:19-20 where Jesus says, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;"

We know this world has nothing to offer us, we recognize God's purpose for our lives as parents.  We are thankful that God blessed Mirick and I with three beautiful children, and we know we are going to be held accountable for how we bring them up. So we will continue to follow the command from (Deuteronomy 6:6-9). Mirick and I live a life of simplicity and we do not want bigger or better we want to hear God  say “Well done”. We seek the approval of our Heavenly Father not the approval of man. God Bless You!
